Luxe Lineup: Mel Usine Debut Collection
The designer’s debut collection is inspired purely by the Melusine myth; a creature with the head of a beautiful woman and the body existing somewhere between a mermaid and serpent. Within the designs this concept of fluidity and liquidity is seen in the draping and materials; silver knit is used to give a medieval fantasy look to the garments while silks serve to balance and create movement.
The collection consists of deep woodsy colors like pine greens and rust reds paired with stark whites and, of course, the silver of the silver knit. Layering and accentuated silhouettes are key to accomplishing this fantastical melusine collection. Puffed sleeves, cloaks, hoods, and long flat-soled boots are reminiscent of the fashion seen at a renaissance fair. The models are kept natural with imperfectly textured hair tousled into buns and braids, also alluding to the mythology and this period in time.
This collection comes off as a strong debut with a clear vision and exceptionally crafted execution. While more variety in models and style would be exciting for the future, this collection serves as a solid reference point for the brand and what they want to create. Because of the unique vision and the craftsmanship that has carried it through, this collection has earned the title of opulent allure.
