Luxe Lineup: Marc Jacobs Spring 2027 ready-to-wear
The new Marc Jacobs ready-to-wear collection, “Gratitude,” was debuted at the New York Public Library in late June. The show featured endless layering, sheerness, and stiff plastics and pleathers, all in a rainbow of neons. The location of the show and design choices show Jacobs’ gratitude, acting as a love letter to past design and humble beginnings.
This show, much like other Marc Jacobs runways, is an embodiment of the essence of the brand. The audience almost always knows what to expect when it comes to Jacobs’ work: chunky necklaces, bright colors in outlandish combinations, ankle-breaking platforms, practically unwearable silhouettes, all worn by the designer’s little dolls.
While there are always these integral ingredients to a Marc Jacobs look, there is no way of knowing what to expect from his next runway. That is to say, the designer has formed one of the most successful identities; this idea of the colors and accessories you might see in the show, but has been able to protect the excitement of not knowing how it will be used. This is what makes the brand truly successful in what they do.
This Gratitude collection can be viewed as an homage to the broader past and personal historical silhouettes and looks. The Marc by Marc Jacobs collection has featured PVC since the early 2000s, with some jelly shoulder bags still being sold in stores like Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus, today. An essence of the 2024 dollhouse collection is present through the makeup and posing, and the sky-high platforms are a nod to the iconic Kiki shoes.
Staying true to the blood of the brand while continuously showing something new and exciting has earned this the title of opulent allure. With a collection like Gratitude, Marc Jacobs has shown something new and interesting while simultaneously and obviously tipping their hat to the past.
