Luxe Lineup: Comme Des Garçons Fall/Winter 2026

Rei Kawakubo’s Comme Des Garçons has been noted by avant-garde designs and over-the-top silhouettes since the beginning. The Fall/Winter 2026 show was not only about playing with fantastical proportions, but also incorporated the role of color.

Set to true fairytale music, the show featured models with sculptural, teased buns placed around their heads and washed out faded makeup, almost as if they were lacking color in their faces due to illness.

Set against a dark background on a concrete stage, models came dressed in pitch black designs until around the 9-minute mark of the show. The break happened with models wearing the same ballooning designs as before, just this time, in monochrome hot pink. The ultimate other side of the coin, was shown in this immediate parallel between tones of deep black and head-to-toe pink.

Showing this collection for womenswear was a deliberate choice. As the color has become almost only acceptable for womenswear, its start was in regality and royalty, as it is a faded version of the color of luck and strength; red. The shock of color is what truly made this show interesting, with the sculptural textures and silhouettes staying the same, it truly made the show about the switch from black to pink. In a time like 2026, it could signal a break from darkness into a lighter hope, it could be used as a metaphor for women’s strength during a time of unequal power, or it could simply have been used as an interesting way to break up monotony in the designs. Whatever the reason for Kawakubo’s choice, the collection earns a rating of opulent allure due to the need for these kinds of wonderings after watching.
